The Law Book Review Competition, organized annually by the Foundation, is a prestigious event held in commemoration of World Book and Copyright Day, celebrated globally on April 23rd. The competition provides a platform for aspiring legal scholars and enthusiasts to showcase their literary and analytical skills while celebrating the importance of legal literature in contemporary society.
Participants are invited to review and analyze books relevant to various legal topics, and present their insights and critiques in a structured and scholarly manner. Through their reviews, participants not only demonstrate their understanding of legal principles and concepts but also showcase their ability to engage critically with legal scholarship and contribute meaningfully to the advancement of knowledge in the field.
In the inaugural edition of the competition, participants were tasked with crafting an insightful 250-word book review of “ABC of Contemporary Land Law in Nigeria” authored by His Lordship, Hon. Justice I. A. Umezulike, OFR, FCIRB. This seminal work provides a comprehensive overview of contemporary land law principles and their application in Nigeria’s legal landscape.
Among the participants of the inaugural edition of the competition, Miss Grace Nneoma Ori, a 500-level law student at Ebonyi State University, emerged as the winner. Her insightful review demonstrated a deep understanding of the subject matter and showcased her exceptional literary prowess. Halimah Gbadamosi, Ruth Obeta, and Praise Emmanuel emerged as runners-up.
As part of our commitment to recognizing excellence, the winners of the Law Book Review Competition are awarded cash prizes, honoring their dedication to legal scholarship.
Through initiatives like the Law Book Review Competition, the Foundation continues to foster a culture of intellectual curiosity, academic excellence, and legal scholarship among aspiring legal professionals.
