Impacting Lives and Inspiring Change

1. International Youth Day

In 2022, the Foundation celebrated International Youth Day in a remarkable manner.

Our Head of Legal, Research, and Impact, Barrister Ruth Soronnadi, appeared in an enlightening discussion on Anambra Broadcasting Station (ABS TV). During the discussion, she delved into the significance of youth involvement in decision-making processes and emphasized the importance of fostering intergenerational solidarity across all age groups.

At the Foundation, we are dedicated to cultivating a more inclusive society that recognizes and values the perspectives and contributions of every generation, particularly amplifying the voices of young people.

2. International Day of Elimination of Violence Amongst Women and Girls (IDEVAWG)

To commemorate the International Day of Elimination of Violence Amongst Women and Girls in 2022, our Foundation took proactive steps to address gender-based violence and promote gender equality.

Barrister Ruth Soronnadi, our Head of Legal, Research, and Impact, paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Gender Affairs and Social Development. She was warmly received by the Director of Administration and Supply/ Acting Permanent Secretary, Dr. Mrs Okenwa Uzoechina, and engaged in a productive discussion on forming partnerships to enhance the protection of women and young girls.

Through sustained advocacy and collaborative efforts, we aspire to cultivate safer and more supportive environments where all individuals can thrive, devoid of violence and discrimination.

3. International Day in Support of Torture Victims

To commemorate the International Day in Support of Torture Victims 2023, our Foundation’s Head of Legal, Research, and Impact made a guest appearance on Solid FM (100.9) Enugu, Nigeria.

During the radio segment, Barrister Soronnadi delved into the critical aspects of enforcing the provisions outlined in the United Nations Convention Against Torture (UNCAT). She shed light on the detrimental effects of torture, both physical and psychological, including scars, neurological issues, and mental health disorders such as post-traumatic stress disorder and depression.

In addition to raising awareness about the grave human rights violation and criminality of torture, Barrister Soronnadi highlighted several solutions during the program:

i. Advocating for widespread awareness among the populace regarding torture as a human rights infringement and a crime.
ii. Encouraging prompt reporting of torture incidents as soon as they occur.
iii. Conducting regular sensitization and educational programs for law enforcement agencies on proper investigation procedures.
iv. Implementing periodic monitoring and evaluation of detention centers to assess the conditions of detainees.
v. Urging the establishment of rehabilitation centers for torture victims in various states to address their physical and psychological health needs and facilitate their healing journey.

By promoting education on the psychological effects of torture and highlighting on the solutions, we aim to contribute to the prevention of torture, the protection of human rights, and the holistic rehabilitation of torture survivors.

4. International Day of Education

To commemorate the International Day of Education in 2023, we organized an interactive online quiz competition aimed at fostering learning and knowledge exchange within our community. Leveraging the reach of social media platforms, we invited participants to engage in the quiz, emphasizing the pivotal role of education in advancing social development and sustainability.

EL-RINO, FESTUS OGUNBAYO, and ADANNE E, emerged as the winners of the 2023 edition of the quiz competition. In recognition of their achievement, they were each awarded cash prizes of ₦10,000.

Through initiatives like our online quiz competition, we remain committed to promoting education as a fundamental driver of individual empowerment and societal progress.

 

5. International MSME’s Day

To commemorate International MSMEs Day on June 27th, a day dedicated to recognizing the invaluable contributions of Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) to global economic development, the Foundation’s SME Business Developer, Mr. Prince-Excellence C. Levi appeared on Solid 100.9fm in a dynamic panel discussion on the radio program “Business Matters”.

Alongside the radio anchors, Ultra-favora Adaeze Nwokolo and LadySlim Amaka Nneji, Mr. Prince-Excellence engaged in a stimulating conversation on the theme for the year “Building A Stronger Future Together”.

Through this enlightening session, Mr. Prince-Excellence provided actionable insights and invaluable advice tailored to empower entrepreneurs in overcoming challenges and seizing opportunities within the MSME landscape. He shared practical tips, strategies, and best practices essential for guiding MSMEs towards success.

By disseminating knowledge and building capacity, The Ugochukwu Azubike SME Development Initiative aims to cultivate a more resilient and prosperous entrepreneurial community, driving sustainable economic growth and inclusive development.

 

6. World Day of Social Justice

To commemorate the World Day of Social Justice in 2023, the Foundation took to social media to share an enlightening article with our audience, shedding light on the pillars of social justice. We aimed to raise awareness and encourage dialogue about the importance of fairness and equality in society.

In 2024, our commitment to promoting social justice continued as our Head of Legal, Research, and Impact, Barrister Ruth Soronnadi, was invited as a guest on Energy 105.5 FM Enugu. During the radio program, Barrister Ruth engaged in a thought-provoking discussion with On Air Personalities Chinonso Eze and Vivian Eze about the principles of social justice and its significance in our communities.

She emphasized that social justice entails fairness across various facets of society, including healthcare, employment, and housing. Highlighting the pillars of social justice—human rights, access, participation, and equity—Barrister Ruth underscored the Foundation’s commitment to upholding these principles through legal education, research, advocacy, and humanitarian initiatives.

Through programs like our law in school initiative, aimed at educating young students about their basic human rights, we strive to empower individuals to advocate for justice and equality in their communities.

The radio program provided an opportunity for listeners to contribute to the conversation, further enriching the dialogue on social justice. Barrister Ruth concluded by emphasizing that all sectors of society share a responsibility in promoting social equality and ensuring that everyone has access to essential rights and opportunities for a dignified life.
